Poached Pears

Serves 4

1/2 cup Splenda
2 cups water
zest from 1 orange and 1 lemon
1 cinnamon stick
3 whole cloves
2 Bartlett pears, peeled and cored

In large saucepan, combine first five ingredients and bring to a boil. Place pears into liquid stem side up. Simmer pears until tender, about 20 minutes. Transfer pears to a platter to cool. Strain the liquid into a saucepan, bring back to a boil and reduce till maple syrup consistency (about 220 degrees on candy thermometer). Let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate.
